How To Build A Capsule Wardrobe.
As I’m currently in the process of taking my own wardrobe from a ‘only 30% being worn and filled with random impulse purchases wardrobe’ to a wardrobe of pieces that are good quality, can be mixed and matched in many ways, and can be worn for years to come. My thought process when buying new items for my wardrobe is to ask myself …will I still love this next year? Will the quality remain the same after many washes and wears? Can I style this in many ways?
I’m half way through a big wardrobe overhaul at the moment, being quite strict with myself and getting rid of items if they haven’t been worn enough. I like to list a few items on my Vinted account (Char-26) and give the majority to charity.
As I’ve been looking for pieces to add in to my own capsule wardrobe I thought I would share with you the pieces I’ve found or purchased myself.
THE BASIC WHITE TEE
Starting with the basic white tee, I would say this is something EVERYONE needs in their wardrobe, I’ve tested so many white tees over the years & COS are my number one for basic tees, with Arket coming second, I’ve also bought higher end brand T-shirts before which don’t wash as well as the COS ones, highly recommend these tees and its something you will always need in your wardrobe weather its for Summer or Winter layering.
THE WEAR WITH EVERYTHING JEAN
A good fitting pair of jeans is also something we all need in our wardrobes, I actually find it so difficult to find a good pair of jeans and when I do, I tend to wash and rewear over and over, A pair of jeans with a tee tucked in, a belt and an oversized blazer or coat is one of my go to looks when I don’t know what to wear. I’ve had a pair of Raey jeans on my wishlist for a while, a pair I will defo be purchasing for my own wardrobe.
THE OVERSIZED BLAZER
An oversized blazer is something I actually can’t live without, it can completely elevate a simple look , whether its with a pair of jeans, over a mini dress in the eve, or as a suit with some matching trousers. I only have one in my wardrobe at the moment that I wear with everything so I’ve been looking to add a couple more, these are some of my favourite blazers I’ve found recently.
THE WHITE OVERSIZED SHIRT
You really can’t go wrong with an oversized crisp white shirt, so easy to wear and style, and always gives off a clean look. I love to tuck mine into wide leg pants or wear untucked with a super wide leg jean for a full slouchy look.
THE THROW EVERYTHING IN TOTE
A good big tote bag is a wardrobe must for me, especially being a mum its great to have a bag that looks good but you can still throw everything in, I have my eye on the Bottega Andiamo at the moment!
THE BLACK BOOT
Ok so I actually included two pairs of boots I own here, the Miista boots are my FAVE heeled ankle boot, I’ve had mine for years and worn them SO much, they go with everything, I wear mine with a pair of wide leg jeans, knit maxi dress, black tailored trousers they’re just so easy to wear with most AW outfits and they’re fairly comfortable I can wear them pretty much all day. I also own the Bottega Lug boots which are although slightly on the heavy side also very easy to style in AW and once you’ve worn them a couple of times you get used to the weight! The row and COS boots are also on my wish list!
‘THE COAT IS THE OUTFIT’ COAT
When it comes to coats I am the biggest coat hoarder… I absolutely love a big oversized coat. During Autumn/Winter, I tend to base most of my outfits around a coat so I like to have a good variety of options so that my outfits don’t always look the same. The bigger the shoulders the better for me when it comes to coats, I’ve shared below some of the ones on my wish list at the moment.
THE COZY BUT CHIC KNIT
Since I’ve started to clear out my wardrobe, I realised I’m really lacking in the knit department, which is something everyone needs in their capsule wardrobe, a few different styles of a good quality knit. I’ve been on the search for some knits for myself and these are some of my favourite ones I’ve come across.
